Advocates in Maryland seek more Asian American and Pacific Islander representation in textbooks. The message of inclusion is reaching classrooms across the country, and Maryland Senate Majority Whip Susan Lee has been advocating through legislation. Last session, Lee introduced Senate Bill 462 which would have allowed the Maryland State Board of Education to expand the history curriculum to include more diverse groups, including Asian Americans. While the bill didn't make it out of committee, it created a new awareness.
