Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders - The Margin of Victory
Asian Americans - the #NewVote
VISION
AAMOVE envisions a Maryland where elected officials and candidates recognize the significance of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPIs) voters and meaningfully engage and represent this diverse community. In the last election cycle, AANHPI voter turnout increased by approximately 12%, more than any other group. In key races, the voter bloc was the margin of victory. Further, the full potential of the AANHPI electorate has yet to be realized, as only 50% of Asian Americans are registered. To reach this state, AAMOVE strives for Asian Americans - largely immigrants - to inculcate a new ethos of civic and political participation, to be networked, to be mutually supportive and to cultivate youth to assume public service leadership.
What We Do
1. Raise the profile of Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) community and their needs
2. Create a statewide network across Maryland
3. Serve as an online clearinghouse for news, information and resources
4. Promote civic participation
Spotlight on AAPI Research Roundtable Resources
The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA)'s event “AAPIs as Audiences, Consumers, Voters: Making the Case for AAPI Research,” previewed key findings from new reports by Nielson, Pew Research Center, Rapid Research Center, APIA Vote, AAPI Data and AAJA on the evolution of news and information consumption by AAPIs and other communities of color, including election news and information.
